Reviews (Eats)Siirt Şeref Büryan Kebap Salonu: The Lamb Underground
Kadınlar Pazarı – a pleasant, pedestrian-only square in Istanbul’s Fatih neighborhood – is the closest thing the city has to a “Little Kurdistan.” The area is populated by migrants from Turkey’s predominantly Kurdish southeast region, and small market stalls and butcher shops selling honey, cheeses, spices and other goodies from the region surround the square. Visiting the atmospheric area is a great way to get a taste of Southeast Turkey without having to leave Istanbul.
The square is also home to numerous restaurants, most of them selling büryan kebabı and perde pilavı, two dishes that are a specialty of Siirt, a city not far from Turkey’s Syrian and Iraqi borders that’s home to both Kurds and Arabs. Büryan is a bit like Turkey’s version of Texas pit BBQ.

I literally cannot wait to get to Istanbul. I have heard so many good things about the food and these kebabs alone look amazing. Definitely going to try and add it to my itinerary this year!

This was an absolutely wonderful surprise. Looks can so deceiving, I really thought I wasn’t going to enjoy this that much because it looks really plain without any sauce. Oh my, was I wrong! And it is the seasoning that takes this to soaring heights! The oil from the meat drops onto the crispy, chewy bread and it is just so good! Excellent find!
