The cabbie took me straight to the ancient, stone entrance of Kumkapi and deposited me on the side of the boulevard. I hoofed it straight to Musa's joint for my return visit.
It did not disappoint.
Once again, one of the best eggplant dishes I've ever eaten.
I asked for an "az" platter and Musa himself went to dipping off his steamline.
Once he was done I had a combination of meats and vegetable fit for a sultan. Everything was sublime. If I lived in Istanbul this would be one of my regular haunts.
Also, Doyuran Lokantasi has hit the big time.
There is a giant coffee table book on Lokanta in Istanbul and Musa's joint is featured.
Gotta run.
Time to hit Zubeyir

I went to both Doyuran Lokantasi and Boris’in Yeri today, and they did not disappoint. The musaka and ispanak yemeği were both delicious, but the two other dishes we had were just mediocre. The place is clean, tidy, and very welcoming, and the staff was great.

Boris’in Yeri is a little slice of heaven. It doesn't look like it hasn't changed since it opened, but in a good way. The kaymak and the ekmek kadayıfı (a kind of syrup soaked bread pudding, of sorts) were amazing.

And I like Kumkapi, the neighborhood in which they are located. Once you get away from the main fish joint drag, it is a very pleasant and colorful neighborhood of people and families doing their thing.

Go! Eat!

This review inspired me to begin planning a trip to Istanbul last year. My review is below

http://chowpapi.com/?cat=8&paged=2

I'm now planning a return visit to Turkey and Doyuran will be the first restaurant I visit when I come back.

It's outstanding.
